It’s been a long time between posts, but in our defense there’s been a frickin’ pandemic, we moved across the country, started college, etc.
So, although after the move we were briefly back hosting Amplified Moosh on a slower internet provider, the good news is that we have since upgraded our internet service to gigabit, so it should be much faster now. No, we didn’t do it just for Amplified Moosh, but it’s a side benefit of working from home, virtual college, and increased streaming due to the pandemic.
Also, without getting too much into the “why” (since it should be obvious) we have switched the Amplified Moosh server from SpigotMC to PaperMC. For those who don’t know, PaperMC is Spigot compatible server solution that offers much faster performance, improved error management/console, and a much easier update process. The update process is much easier because instead of having to locally recompile a new version of Spigot for each update, when starting up a PaperMC server it downloads the vanilla Minecraft server and patches it with the PaperMC “goodness”. This was not an easy decision since we’ve been loyally using SpigotMC for quite a while now, but PaperMC is such a significant improvement that it was just the right/only decision to make.
So we are now running v1.16.3 with all plugins currently working. We still likely have some lingering issues with a couple of the Mini Challenges dating back to the v1.13 update which changed things so much, but when we get time we’re going to revisit those issues and see if we can’t fix them now. Most significantly the SimplePets plugin seems to be working again, including most (if not all) the new mobs being available as pets. After starting up a speedcubing hobby during the pandemic, we also added a “really big deal” to the Valley of Giants. We haven’t updated the Minecraft Mooseum yet, but we have enlarged the building in preparation for a significant update. We also added an Aquarium exhibit as well as adding a couple new mobs to existing exhibits in the Minecraft Zoo.
